Cambridgeshire Drug and Alcohol Action Team (DAAT) is delighted to be promoting Recovery Month. During June there will be a series of inspiring events to celebrate recovery.
Among the highlights of Recovery Month will be the launch of the new Adult Drug Treatment Service in Cambridgeshire. This is now provided by Inclusion under the auspices of South Staffordshire and Shropshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (SSSFHT) building on the foundations set by previous providers Addaction.
The aim of the new drug treatment service is to encourage individuals to achieve freedom from dependency on drugs or alcohol. A range of agencies will work together, to support the service user and their families and carers. Treatment will be flexible and based on the recovery goals of each individual. The service is now also open on a Saturday morning.
Paul Pescud, the Locality Manager in Cambridge, states that 'Recovery Month allows us all to think about the positives and celebrate Recovery. People do move on from a life of drugs and alcohol and we see many examples of that'.
The DAAT is supporting recovery alongside the Adult and Young People’s Drug Treatment Services and Service User Groups across Cambridgeshire.
Events during Recovery Month include:
- In Cambridge city, a recovery walk will take place from 11am on Friday 29th June starting at Mill House on Mill Road, led by the service user group REACH around Cambridge City; to promote recovery
- In Fenland, there will be a planned recovery-focused event each week in June, for example a complimentary therapy taster afternoon or a recovery walk around Wisbech on 19th June. Staff will produce 'thought' cards for clients to take and clients will be encouraged to write down their hopes and aspirations a recovery book.
- In Huntingdonshire, there will be a recovery-focused drop-in with refreshments each week and a recovery book will also be promoted.
- Recovery awards – awards for individuals (both service users and professionals) who have made significant contributions towards recovery.
- Creative competition
- Open days at Inclusion Drug Treatment Services across Cambridgeshire
- Inclusion is rolling out Recovery Champion training in June to build on the existing network within the service. The Recovery Champions support and inspire others on their own journey to recovery.
- Cambridge Link-Up will be holding the first Independent Service Group meeting on 15th June 2012.
- A recovery picnic at Cambridgeshire Adolescents Substance Use Services (CASUS) for existing service users. This will be an opportunity for service users to meet one another and see how other young people have progressed in their path to recovery. Balloons with recovery wishes attached for each person will be released and everyone will be encouraged to wear the colour purple.
