Welney Wildfowl Refuge

Covering 850 acres, Welney provides refuge for thousands of birds. A posted Nature Trail runs through the reserve in summer and hides allow viewing of birds, including winter swans, by floodlight.

There is an information display room and guide books are on sale, and there is a gift & book shop. Binoculars are available for hire. Overnight accommodation is available. There are toilet facilities for the disabled and wheelchair access to the main observatory. No dogs (except guide dogs) are allowed in the Refuge.

Open: Daily 10am to 5pm. Closed 25th December. Summer evening visits for booked parties of 20 or more.

Location: About 10 miles north of Ely. Take the A1101 Welney-Littleport road to the first bridge. From here follow the road north-east alongside the bank of the New Bedford River.

Charges: Check website. Reduced rates for parties of 20 or more booked in advance, senior citizens and children. Children under 4 admitted free.

Parking: Free at Refuge.
