Access to Work (AtW) provides advice and practical support to disabled people and their employers to give you the help you need to be able to work

Who is eligible?

If your disability affects the type of work you do and your condition is likely to last for 12 months or longer, you may be eligible for AtW support.  You can apply for AtW if you are in any paid job whether this is part time, full time, permanent or temporary.

What help is available?

Access to work is available for a wide range of equipment and support and can include

  • Communicator support at interview - AtW will meet the full cost of hiring an interpreter for you to be able to compete at interview on an equal basis with other applicants.
  • A support worker - to enable you to have a helper if you are visually or hearing impaired.  You can use the support worker for tasks such as reading documents, letters etc or for a sign language interpreter if you need this support for meetings, supervision etc.
  • Coaching or a support worker can be provided by AtW for a limited period for people with learning difficulties to enable you to learn your new job.
  • AtW can also help purchase specialist equipment such as specialist computer programmes, wheelchairs etc.
  • Adaptations to premises or to existing equipment
  • Fare to Work - Help can also be obtained with the additional costs of travel to or in work, for people who are unable to use public transport.
