Economic Development Unit

Extras

The Economic Development Unit of the County Council works closely with partner agencies, to assist the growth of the county’s economy. The key activities are:

External Funding

The unit works with partners, particularly in the Fens – the most economically disadvantaged part of the county – to draw down funding for projects through the area’s EU Objective 2 (Transitional) and Leader + programmes. In addition the unit coordinates the promotion of funding opportunities through the EU Objective 3 programme.

Greater Cambridge Partnership (GCP)

The GCP is the sub-regional economic partnership for an area of 25 miles radius of Cambridge. It brings together the public, private and community sectors to help foster the economic development of the area.  Staff in the unit oversee project delivery and provide support to the GCP in a range of other activities.

Business Development

The unit provides a signposting role to relevant business support agencies such as Business Link, Learning and Skills Council and Enterprise Agencies.

Tourism Promotion and Support

Working closely with the district councils and regional tourist board, the unit promotes the county to overseas visitors and provides funding to the Fens Tourism Initiative that seeks to attract visitors to the Fens.
