Current initiatives and activities are:

Superfast Broadband Plan

The Council is working with Peterborough City Council and key partners to bring superfast broadband to the majority of homes and businesses across the region. The latest information is available on our Broadband page.

Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP)

The Greater Cambridge Greater Peterborough Local Enterprise Partnership was given the green light by Government on 26th October 2010, following the submission of a bid in September 2010, to help drive forward sustainable economic growth in the partnership area.

The key areas of focus agreed by their Project Board are: 

  • skills and employment
  • strategic economic vision,
  • infrastructure,
  • housing and planning
  • economic development and support for high growth business funding, including EU funding, regional growth funding and private sector funding

Economic Strategy for Greater Cambridge 2009 - 2012

The current strategy was produced in 2009 by partners in the Greater Cambridge area. It is anticipated that future strategies will be developed through the Greater Cambridge Greater Peterborough LEP.

Economic assessment

The Council have undertaken an economic assessment of the local area. The assessment will act as a shared economic evidence base, feeding into various strategies at regional, county and district level. Further details are available on the Economic Assessment page.

Inward investment

The unit proactively engages with businesses who are looking to relocate to the Cambridgeshire area. Further information is provided in our relocating to Cambridgeshire pages.

 

Business intelligence

Reports are produced on a monthly basis from information gathered from a variety of sources. The reports can be accessed from the business intelligence page.

The Council's Economic Development and finance teams are currently working with partners, as the Accountable Body, on the following programme:

 Fens Adventurers - LEADER Programme

Tourism promotion and support

Working closely with the district councils and regional tourist board, the unit promotes the county to overseas visitors and manages the visitcambridgeshire tourism website.

Statistics and time series data on visitor numbers and spend for Cambridgeshire have been compiled by Tourism South East.

2012 Olympics and Cultural Olympiad

The Council is actively involved in promoting Cambridgeshire as an ideal location to visit and stay during the Olympics. Our 2012 Olympics and Cultural Olympiad pages give further details.

We are also members of GOLD, the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Coordinating Group from the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and Cultural Olympiad. The membership is made up of all those organisations interested and involved in work around the 2012 events, whilst seeking to achieve a legacy from the Olympics and Paralympics and working to ensure the impact is felt within Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.

The Cambridge Cluster at 50

The Council has supported a study, funded by EEDA, to consider the future for the Cambridge Cluster and the wider Greater Cambridge economy. The report is now available.
