Joint Strategic Needs Assessment

A Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA) is the means by which local authorities, PCTs and local partners describe the future health, care and wellbeing needs of the local populations and to identify the strategic direction of service delivery to meet those needs.

Cambridgeshire’s JSNA

Cambridgeshire’s Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA) is being refreshed. The summary report, which was approved by the Cambridgeshire Shadow Health and Wellbeing Board on 11th April, provides an overview of JSNA work to date. This is supported by the individual reports for specific groups, located at http://www.cambridgeshirejsna.org.uk/. High-level finance and service activity for older people has been added to the current body of work. This begins to bring together data about the use of resources by local public sector organisations, so as to help organisations to plan in partnership to meet older people’s health and wellbeing needs. The JSNA will be used as the basis for a Cambridgeshire Health and Wellbeing Strategy, which is to be developed and consulted on over the summer.

The Research, Performance and Business Intelligence Team are involved in the work on the JSNA.

Cambridgeshire JSNA Public Health Datasets

The Key Demographic and Health Related Data report brings together headline data covering demography, the determinants of health and health outcomes at both county and local authority district levels. The ONS Cluster Dataset benchmarks each district against its group of similar authorities for a range of indicators. The previously published Health Profiles for LCGs are still located on the website. For more information on the JSNA Public Health datasets, please contact PHI-team@cambridgeshire.nhs.uk.

Child health profiles

Child health profiles were recently launched by the Child and Maternal Health Observatory (ChiMat) and Eastern Region Public Health Observatory (erpho). They are designed to help local authorities and primary care trusts improve the health and well-being of children and tackle health inequalities. The local profile can be found on the JSNA website.
