The Research Group of the County Council have been leading the way in carrying out research work in this area. We have completed or are in the process of carrying out the following pieces of work:
Cambridgeshire Travellers Review
A comprehensive study of travellers and the services provided to them in the County. Although this project was completed in 2000 it remains the definitive piece of work on this subject.
Cambridge Area Travellers Needs Assessment 2005
The largest survey of Gypsies and Travellers undertaken in the UK to date. It assesses the accommodation and other needs of Gypsies and Travellers in Cambridgeshire and four adjacent local authorities. It includes a "Gypsy and Traveller Accommodation Assessment" as required by the Housing Act 2004 for each district council involved in the study. Beyond this, the survey provides a more detailed demographic picture than was previously available and considers other needs such as health and education. The methodology has attracted considerable interest as best practice.
