Crime and community safety research

We support each of the five district Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnerships (CDRPs) in Cambridgeshire with their research, monitoring and information needs.

In practical terms this means that the team is involved in regularly analysing patterns in crime, alcohol and drug misuse, anti-social behaviour and behaviour that adversely affects the environment. The Research, Performance and Business Intelligence Team produces regular monitoring reports for each CDRP. The team also carries out specific pieces of work such as the in-depth analysis on specific issues e.g. domestic violence or the evaluation of the effectiveness of specific crime reduction initiatives.

Strategic Assessments

The 2011 Strategic Assessments are now available and can be downloaded from the relevant link below.

The partnerships have identified priorities and actions for the future stemming from the assessment findings. Further details on this process can be found at each district community safety webpage.

A Strategic Assessment is the document that forms the basis of business planning for the district community safety partnerships each year. Five are produced - one for each district.

The Police Act (2006) requires each CDRP in England and Wales to produce a Strategic Assessment that will then assist in producing (or revising) their partnership action plan. Ultimately the responsibility for producing this assessment sits with each CDRP, however in Cambridgeshire the practical work of producing the assessment is undertaken by the Research, Performance and Business Intelligence Team with contributions from partners.

The Strategic Assessment identifies the issues that are most relevant to the local area in terms of crime, disorder, community safety, anti-social behaviour and substance misuse. Data and intelligence from all CDRPs is collected, analysed and informs the key findings and recommendations for prioritisation contained within the assessment.

These key findings and recommendations should be considered by the CDRP when drafting and revising their rolling three-year plan. In addition the Strategic Assessment must outline the priorities to escalate to the county level. The annual cycle of assessments is intended to compliment and refresh Local Area Agreements.
