There are many types of vacancies within Trading Standards, such as:
Trading Standards Officer (TSO)
TSO's are legally qualified officers who enforce the full range of duties within the service. Many of these officers are recruited from the four universities that offer specific degrees in this area. TSOs lead a varied existence and visit nearly every type of commercial undertaking within their area. This is not only to make sure that businesses comply with the law, but also to give them detailed legal advice and support.
Fair Trading Officer (FTO)
These officers carry out a range of specialist duties, in a similar way to trading standards officers. They may not have a specific qualification in trading standards or consumer law, but can be recruited from a wide variety of backgrounds. There are mechanisms in place to allow such officers to progress, with further study, to the position of a Trading Standards Officer.
