The EATING (Everybody’s Access To International Groceries) Project has been funded by The East of England Development Agency and developed by Cambridgeshire Trading Standards.
The principle of the project is to achieve better compliance on labelling, pricing and other legislation through a partnership approach with ethnic food shops. The shop is encouraged to write a basic marketing plan aiming to target the local English-speaking population, thereby increasing their customer base. As part of the plan, the shop naturally moves towards producing better labelling, pricing and signage in English, making the premises better compliant with legislation.
The project was piloted with a shop in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire. For details of the pilot, click on the link to the left.
A toolkit to assist other Trading Standards Officers to adopt this approach was produced and this is available by following the link to the left.
