This is a summary of the enforcement policy adopted by the Trading Standards Service.
1) Enforcement is defined as including any advice, inspection, action, instruction or warning, caution or prosecution given to a person or organisation as part of a wide ranging enforcement mix, any part of which may be appropriate in given circumstances.
2) Only officers warranted by the delegated powers of Directors and Senior Officers will be authorised to undertake enforcement work on behalf of the County Council.
3) The County Council is a signatory to and committed to the aims of the Government’s Enforcement Concordat.
Anyone undertaking an enforcement role on behalf of the County Council in any capacity must have regard to the Enforcement Concordat together with any additional requirements of the service area as laid down by codes of conduct, legislation or other provisions contained in this enforcement policy.
4) Everyone must ensure that they deal with those subject to enforcement action courteously, fairly and objectively.
5) The Human Rights Act has a direct impact on those in the public sector undertaking investigations. Separate policies relate to activities subject to this Act.
