Safety of Goods

Our Officers work diligently to ensure that products on sale in Cambridgeshire are safe and comply with current product safety legislation.

We carry out inspections and take samples in retail premises and work with businesses to ensure that both locally manufactured and imported goods are safe. We provide advice to traders on testing and labelling of a range of products including baby equipment, electrical goods, furniture, toys and cosmetics.

When a concern is raised over the safety of products, we have powers to act to make sure that the goods are removed from sale and consumers are made aware of a potentially dangerous product.

If necessary, we can issue suspension notices to prevent unsafe products from being sold or distributed and can prosecute traders who supply goods that do not meet the required standards.
