Applying for a secondary school place

The council manages the school admissions process for children who live within, or are moving into Cambridgeshire for all maintained schools, including academies.

Places are allocated in accordance with the Government's School Admissions Code, which ensures that school places are allocated in an open and fair way.

Offers of school places - 1 March 2013

On the national offer date, offer letters will be sent by second class post to all parents who submitted an application form.

If you applied online, and requested email notification of your allocated school, this will be sent on 1 March 2013 to the email address provided on the application form.

You will also be able to view your child’s school offer via the online application facility below.

Further information regarding the secondary school allocation process, including schools that are oversubscribed and those that have places remaining, are detailed in the Year 7 school allocation information Sep2013.pdf.

If you have been successful in obtaining your preferred school please contact the school within 15 school days to accept the place, and to discuss the admission of your child.

If you are unsuccessful in obtaining a place at your preferred school(s you have the right to an appeal against this decision. Find out about the secondary school admission appeals process.

Your child’s name will be automatically added to the reserve list for the school(s) where it has not been possible to offer a place. Their name will remain on the reserve list until 31 December 2013.

If you no longer require the school place offered for your child, please complete and return the slip at the bottom of your offer letter indicating where your child will be receiving education.

Year 7 and upper school transfers

If your child was born between 1 September 2001 and 31 August 2002, and will need a secondary school place for September 2013, or currently attends a middle school and will be going into Year 9 in September 2013, you should already have made an application. Late applications must be made on the Secondary School Application Form 2013-14.pdf (144Kb), and will be considered after all on-time applications. Full information about how to apply can be found in our Next Steps - admission to secondary school (1701Kb) and Transferring to upper school (167Kb) booklets.

Applying for all other year groups

If you are currently living in Cambridgeshire, or are moving into the county and need a school place for your child at a new secondary school at any point during the academic year you can make an application through our in-year admissions page.

Supplementary Information Forms (SIFs)

If you are applying to St Bede's Inter-Church School for religious reasons, as well as submitting an application form to the School Admissions Team, you will need to submit a Supplementary Information Form (SIF) to the school.

Your child's address

Whether you choose to make your application online, or on paper, you must give your child’s permanent address.  If your child lives at more than one address this is where your child spends the majority of school nights, and where child benefit is paid.  It must be where your child will be living when they are due to start school in September 2013.

You may be asked to provide proof of the address for your application to be considered.
