Keeping children safe

Trying to keep children safe from harm is part of parenting.

Accidental injuries are the highest cause of death for children over the age of one and children from disadvantaged areas are more likely to be effected.

Up to the age of four years, children are most likely to be injured in an accident but older children may be at risk in other ways such as online safety and sun exposure.

Most childhood accidents can be avoided. The pages in this section contain, or link to information on how to reduce the likelihood of a serious incident.

How we can help

Our Road Safety team aims to reduce injuries to pedestrians, cyclists and car passengers.

Some Children’s Centres hold courses to try to reduce accidents in the home.

We also have an Emergency Management team that ensures that the most effective systems are in place should a major incident occur in Cambridgeshire. Find out more about emergency planning and the council’s role in this.
