If you want to know about finding, paying for or working in childcare contact the Childcare Information Service.

This service will be able to tell you:

  • what childcare provision (childminders, playgroups, day nurseries, pre schools) is available in your part of Cambridgeshire
  • what funding is available to help you pay for childcare
  • how you can register to become a childminder
  • what help is available to help you get back into work

Childcare can be offered by private, independent and voluntary providers.

The following types of childcare and early years education are available: 

  • Childminders
  • Childminding networks
  • Day nurseries
  • Local Authority nursery schools and classes
  • Pre-schools and playgroups
  • Private nursery schools
  • Independent schools
  • Out of school clubs 

Help with the cost of childcare

There are several ways that working families and single parents can get assistance with the cost of childcare.  The Childcare Information Service can provide guidance on paying for childcare and the financial support available.
