Social care

By social care we mean services which help children, young people, their parents, relatives and carers including:

  • an assessment of children in need and their families
  • help when people want to adopt and afterwards
  • foster carers for young people unable to live at home
  • advice to young homeless people ages 16 and 17 and for young people leaving care (supported lodgings)
  • when a child appears to be in danger or at risk of abuse (child protection)
  • when children are disabled or have special needs (disabled children)
  • advice about caring for children and details of local and national groups or organisations which might be able to help (Families Information Service)

If you feel that you or your family or a particular child needs help then you should call Children's Social Care Referrals using the details on the right hand side.

Outside normal working hours you can, in an emergency, contact our social care Emergency Duty Team on 01733 234724.

You can expect:

  • advice
  • necessary information
  • if the problem is serious, an assessment of the problem by a social worker - who will make a plan of what we will do

Because our resources are limited, we have to target them at people whose needs are greatest. If this means that you or your family are not eligible to receive services that are provided or funded by us, then we will give you advice as to who else might be able to help you. The criteria we use to decide eligibility for services are available on request.
