If your application for British Citizenship is successful, the Home Office will write inviting you to contact us to arrange a citizenship ceremony.
Please note that you should not contact the Citizenship Officer until you have received your citizenship invitation from the Home Office.
1. Who do I contact to arrange a ceremony date?
The invitation letter from the Home Office will give details of the Citizenship Officer you need to contact.
2. When are the ceremonies held?
The group ceremonies are held most weeks on a Tuesday afternoon, commencing at 2pm.
3. Where will my ceremony be held?
For all applicants within Cambridgeshire group ceremonies are held in the Council Chambers at Shire Hall, Cambridge
4. How many new Citizens are there at a ceremony?
There is a maximum of 24 new Citizens at each ceremony.
5. What should I do if I do not want to be part of a group ceremony?
If you do not want to take part in a group event you can arrange for an private ceremony. You will need to discuss this when you contact us. There is an additional fee of £100 per individual / family for this service in our Registration Offices Monday to Friday (other days / locations prices available on request)
6. Do I have to pay for my citizenship ceremony?
Unless you have asked for a private ceremony there is no additional fee to pay.
7. What happens if I cannot attend a ceremony?
If you cannot attend a ceremony within 11 weeks of receiving your letter the Home Office may withdraw your invitation. You would then need to apply again with the full fee. You should therefore let the Citizenship Officer know as soon as possible if you cannot attend a ceremony.
8. Once I've arranged a date what happens next?
The Citizenship Officer will send you confirmation of your booking and ask you to complete a questionaire, which must be returned prior to the ceremony date.
