Attending a Ceremony

What Will Happen?

On the day of the ceremony new Citizens and their guests are asked to report to the main reception at Shire Hall, Cambridge from 2pm onwards.

Guests will be seated in the Council Chamber whilst the Citizens are booked in and their paperwork checked by Registration Officers.

The ceremony commences promptly at 2.30pm with the procession of new Citizens into the Council Chamber, with their guests standing and whilst appropriate music is played.

After some basic introductions everyone will then be asked to stand to greet the local dignatories taking part.

After an initial welcome the Chairman of the County Council, or his representative, will give a speech of welcome to Cambridgeshire.

The Registration Officers then lead all the new Citizens through the Oath and Pledge.

The new Citizens are then presented with their certificates and an information pack. At this stage an official photograph, available for purchase, is taken.

A representative of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II then gives a speeech of welcome to the United Kingdom.

The ceremony then concludes with the playing of the National Anthem. Everyone present is then invited for light refreshments in the Members Lounge.
