How do I make a nationality checking appointment?
- Obtain the correct application form and guidenotes, which are available on the Home Office website.
- Follow the instructions and complete the form. Please note that our staff are unable to answer any queries regarding the form, eligibility or your documents as we are not able to give advice. Please contact the Home Office (0845 010 5200) for queries on these matters.
- Ensure you have all necessary supporting documents.
- Contact our citizenship team for an appointment. People cannot be seen without one. Our contact details are email to citizenship@cambridgeshire.gov.uk or telephone 01223 715500. Currently appointments are offered at Huntingdon on Tuesday and Cambridge on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. Fees are £55 per adult and £25 per child (both include VAT). Payment by debit or credit card is due at the time of booking, which is in addition to the fees charged by the Home Office.
- Attend the appointment making sure you have the correct documentation. You will receive a confirmation email including relevant maps and full postal address for your appointment.
- Please note that appointments can only be re-scheduled once free of charge provided we are given at least two working days notice. No refunds are made once appointments are booked. If you fail to produce any outstanding documents within 7 days of the appointment, you will need to rebook which will mean another full fee is payable.
What happens at the nationality checking appointment?
Your documents will be checked, copied and the copies certified so you will not need to send original documents with your application. The reduces the risk of important documents being lost in the post and you will be able to retain your passport.
Your application will be checked for accuracy, and, together with the Home Office fee, will be sent by secure mail to the Home Office.
Applications through the checking service will arrive containing all the necessary details and will be dealt with more quickly than those that are incomplete.
How do I make a settlement checking appointment?
- You and your partner must attend the settlement checking service in person. Children under 18 do not have to attend

- Contact our Citizenship team for an appointment. An appointment is essential and people cannot be seen without one. Payment is required by credit or debit card at the time of booking and the fees (for appointments on / after 1st January 2012) are £80 for an adult and £10 per dependent (both include VAT). You will be sent a confirmation email including relevant map links and full postal address for the location of your appointment
- Attend the appointment bringing with you your completed application form, Life in the UK Test pass notification or ESOL certificate and college letter and all the required documents shown on the application form
- Please note that appointments can only be re-scheduled once free of charge provided we are given at least two working days notice. No cancellations or refunds once appointments have been booked. Should you fail to produce any outstanding original documents within 7 days of your appointment, then 100% of the fee payable to us will be forfeited for administrative charges and you will need to book afresh.
What happens at the settlement checking appointment?
- Our staff will check that your application is complete and all the required documentation is included
- We will check that the correct fee (payable to the Home Office) is included
- Tell you if you have included any documents that are not acceptable
- Photocopy and certify your spouse's and dependent(s) passport or travel documents and supporting documents for enclosure with the application, returning originals to them
- Photocopy and certify your passport or travel documents and supporting documents and send them with your application
- Once checked and complete, submit your application to the UK Border Agency by secure mail
