Registrar General's Certificate

This enables a person with a short life expectancy to marry quickly

Before notice can be given a medical certificate must be obtained from a registered medical practioner to confirm that:

-the Doctor is in medical attendance on the person concerned

-the person is seriously ill and not expected to recover

-the person cannot be moved to a place registered for marriages

-he or she understands the nature and purport of the ceremony

The notice is given to the Superintendent Registrar in the district in which the marriage is to take place. (No residential qualification is required for either party). The authority then issued is valid for one month only.
