Cambridgeshire Trading Standards Service exists for the benefit of consumers and businesses within the County.
The main aim of our Service is to promote a fair and safe trading environment for consumers and honest businesses. We achieve this aim through advice, education, working in partnership and law enforcement.
Work that we regularly undertake to meet our aims includes:
- Routine inspections of trade premises to make sure laws are being complied with.
- Investigating breaches of criminal legislation.
- Advising, warning or, if necessary, prosecuting traders who break the law.
- Informing and educating both consumers and traders on the requirements of legislation.
- Supporting industry with a high accuracy metrology service.
- Undertaking projects in areas of specific concern such as underage sales.
What we can and cannot do
We can:
- Give impartial advice on consumer law to both consumers and businesses.
- Suggest action you can take.
- Advise on civil court procedure.
- Investigate if the criminal law has been breached.
What we can’t do:
- Close businesses down.
- Automatically obtain a refund for you.
- Recommend businesses.
- Take action when the criminal law has not been broken.
- Tell you which businesses to avoid.
