Do you know what the average age of a child getting their first mobile phone in the UK is?

 

The answer is actually 8 years of age*

 

This fact shows how important consumer issues are in our everyday life and how essential it is that children and young people understand their consumer rights and responsibilities. 

 

Consumer Education aims to encourage individuals to make informed and confident decisions about their needs and wants.

 

The following pages have been designed to provide you with ideas and activities for teaching consumer education in the following areas:

  • Consumer rights
  • Money and finance
  • Health and safety

 

Trading Standards Education Officers are also happy to provide support and advice to local teachers who want to teach consumer education in the classroom.

 

The Service can provide teachers with ready-made teaching plans and resources that link consumer education issues to the curriculum for all key stages.
