If you receive uninvited traders knocking on your door or unsolicited telephone calls from traders seeking to visit you at home, it would be useful for you to know your rights.
Not all traders who cold call are rogues. You may be aware of local incidents where older or ivulnerable people have been the victim of a doorstep crime.
Examples of possible 'Rogue Trading' practices
- Paying an exorbitant price for house repairs or garden maintenance
- Having to pay in cash
- The trader leaving without finishing the job
- Trader only provides a mobile phone number
- Being told that the price is a special price on this day
- Being told the trader is working up the road and has tarmac or shingle left over
There are laws that seek to protect you from unscrupulous traders ripping you off for goods and services supplied following an unsolicited visit to your home.
