These web pages have been designed to provide you with information about Oxmoor and the projects and amenities in the area.
Oxmoor is a housing area in the north of Huntingdon in Cambridgeshire. It was intially built by the former London County Council as an overspill estate in the early 1960s. The design of the estate was based on the 'Rayburn' layout with housing seperated by a main road with seperate footpath links. Over time it became evident that this type of housing design created numerous problems including fear of crime.
In May 2004 a new ward boundary around Oxmoor was defined. This ward is called 'Huntingdon North'. This area is made up of four 'Super Output Areas' (SOAs). The English Indices of Deprivation identified some pockets of deprivation in Cambridgeshire. Huntingdon North was one of these areas. Out of 365 SOAs in Cambridgeshire, Huntingdon North was in the top 25, with the four areas being ranked 5th, 8th, 13th and 23rd.
To help improve the quality of life for the residents in Oxmoor, money was obtained from the East of England Development Agency. This money was known as the 'Single Regeneration Budget' and has been used to help regenerate Oxmoor since 2000.
To help coordinate the regeneration work in the area 'Oxmoor Opportunities Partnership' was initiated. This team is located in the Maple Centre and provides a place for people to come and talk about any concerns or questions they have.
