Training for professionals

We run a number of courses for employees and external partner agencies in order to ensure that victims of domestic abuse receive the highest level of service from their local authority.

In 2009/2010, the following courses have been delivered to managers, youth workers, social workers and others who come into contact with victims of abuse.

Domestic Violence Training – Practitioner (two days)


Aim

To raise awareness of domestic violence and its impact on children and young people.

To improve partnership working where domestic violence is a feature within families.

Objectives

By the end of the session, participants will have

  • increased awareness of how partner violence impacts upon parenting capacity, children’s well being and development
  • developed skills to work in a focussed, timely and effective way with partner agencies
  • greater awareness of Specallist DV Services, initiatives, agencies statutory responsibilities, legal remedies and options available to victims

Freedom Programme - Train the trainer (2 days)


Aim

To provide an opportunity for practitioners to be able help women to develop ways of thinking and behaving to protect themselves, their children and others from harm.

To provide them with the knowledge to achieve this.

Objectives

By the end of the session, participants will be able to

  • increase women's ability to completely take control of their lives.
  • Increase women's perceptions of the importance of, and ability to make positive use of, social provisions to improve their lives
  • Recognise beliefs held by abusive men
  • Recognise the impact of their life experiences on their own attitudes and beliefs
  • Increase women's ability to recognise what steps they need to take to protect their children.


Target Audience: Practitioners who have attended domestic violence training.

In addition, Cambridgeshire Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults Team run a two day multi-agency training course which is free to attend for staff at County Council, PCT, Mental Health Trusts, Voluntary and Independent health and social care sector. There is a small charge for housing providers of £35 - £50 per person.
