Cambridgeshire has a larger number of Travellers in its borders than any other county in the UK. This community represents our largest ethnic minority.
Travellers have an ancestry here that goes back further than most of the settled residents. They are attracted to the area by the Summer Fairs, agricultural work, and of course family occasions.
Cambridgeshire County Council provides:
- 10 Local Authority Traveller sites managed by the Districts
- Research on Cambridgeshire Travellers and the UL’s largest ever survey assessment of Traveller Need
- A Traveller Education Team
- A Traveller Liaison Officer who is responsible for managing unauthorised encampments on County land (such as Rights of Way, Highways and County Farms); strategic working within the County (including Corporate Diversity); and partnership working across other authorities and agencies
Part of this partnership working will include the development of a County wide website here. This site will:
- offer more information about Traveller issues
- support the work of all those who work with Travellers across the County
- provide downloadable information for Travellers, Residents and Landowners
If you would like your organisation to feature here, or if you have any other questions about the site, please contact our
Traveller Liaison Officer on: 01223 699148
