The Data Protection Act 1998 gives individuals a right to find out what information is held about them. It governs how we collect, use and process personal information. The Act gives you the right to ensure that the information held about you is correct and up to date, and have it amended accordingly if it isn’t.

The pages and charter also explain how you can access your personal data, and what you can do if you think standards are not being met.
We notify the Information Commissioner about our use of personal data. The Council must notify the Information Commissioner of the uses it makes of personal data, what data it holds and how that data may be disclosed.
