All schools, education provider and early years setting keep information about their pupils. The way in which they can use or share this information are prescribed by law.
Privacy Notices (formerly known as Fair Processing Notices) tell pupils and parents what inforamtion is held about them, why and how it could be shared.
Pupils will normally be given their Privacy Notice at the same time they recieve other material eg. as part of a school brochure or induction pack. The Notice will contain links to those parts of the Local Authority and DCSF website which states how they share school information with any other organisations
The Notice also tells people about their rights under the Data Protection Act to see the information which the schools holds on them. Young people over the age of 12 will normally be able to exercise that right directly; parents will act on behalf of younger children. In all cases, however, the school will have to judge whether the child will be capable of understanding and dealing with the information.
You can locate a copy of the Privacy Notice on the right hand side of this page.
Information on how the local authority, primary care trust and connexion service uses the school based information is available to download on right hand side.
