The Council operates under a Leader with a Cabinet form of executive.
Cambridgeshire electors may petition the Council to hold a referendum on whether or not the Council should have a directly elected Mayor. The number of signatures on the petition must equal or exceed the Verification Number in order to trigger the holding of a referendum.
The Verification Number is based on five per cent of the number of eligible voters shown in the Electoral Registers and currently stands at 22800.
This number shall be used for verification purposes in relation to any petition presented to the authority in the period of 12 months beginning on 1 April 2011.
