About Overview and Scrutiny

So what is Overview and Scrutiny all about?

Overview and Scrutiny is basically here to act as a watchdog for the council, challenging the cabinet and the senior officers to make sure that the council is doing its best by the people of Cambridgeshire.

Who is involved?

Elected County Councillors who are not part of the cabinet can all be on our Overview and Scrutiny committees. There are a few other people involved.

What do these committees do?

The committees meet roughly every couple of months in a public meeting (so anyone can come along). They sit around a horseshoe shaped table and a panel of cabinet members or officers sits at the end and is asked hard questions about the work they are doing.

Is that all they do?

The committees also keep track of progress on some of the Council's big projects or big contracts. They also run in-depth reviews of really important areas of service delivery.
