Council tax

In 2011-12 around 50% of the money which we will spend on providing our services (this excludes schools) will come from Council Tax. This amounts to £231m of the total Council Tax collected by your billing authority (i.e. your district or city council) in the following proportions:

  • Cambridge £43m
  • East Cambridgeshire £31m
  • Fenland £32m
  • Huntingdonshire £62m
  • South Cambridgeshire £63m

This equates to £378 per head of population.

Where does our revenue money come from in 2011/12 (gross excluding schools funding)? Other Income = £60.9m, Formula Grant = £120.1m, Specific Grants and NHS Funding = £47.3m, Council Tax = £232.0m

* Council Tax is shown as £232m in this diagram as it includes a surplus on collection from 2009-10.

Who do you pay Council Tax to?

Your Council Tax is collected by one of the District or City Councils on behalf of all of the following organisations:

  • Cambridgeshire County Council
  • Your district or city council
  • Cambridgeshire Police Authority
  • Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Fire Authority
  • Your Parish Council (except for within the City).

Council Tax Rise for 2011-12

Central Government has provided us with funding in order to help the Council freeze our Council Tax in 2011-12. The five Districts, the Police Authority and the Fire Authority have also frozen their Council Tax; therefore, there will be no increase in residents’ Council Tax bills this year, except for any increases by Parishes.
