Council Tax levels and leaflets

The amount of Council Tax you pay depends on the value of your property and where in the County you live. Every domestic property has been allocated to one of eight bands, based on its value in April 1991. If your property was built after this date, it will have been given the national value it would have had in 1991. If you have a query about the valuation band of your property (shown on your bill), you need to contact the Valuation Office Agency.

Council Tax is compared between authorities using the Band D rate and the calculation of the other tax bands is based on set ratios compared to Band D.

Band   A   B   C    D     E     F     G     H
Ratio  6/9  7/9  8/9   9/9   11/9  13/9  15/9  18/9

The total Band D Council Tax (excluding amounts set by Parishes) for each area in the County is provided in the document below.

Council Tax levels in future years

The Council would like to continue with a low increase in later years, therefore as part of our five year plan we have exemplified budget figures for 2012-13 to 2015-16 using a 0% Council Tax change. However, given existing uncertainty over financial conditions in these years, it would be imprudent to make firm commitments at this stage.

Council Tax leaflets 2011-12

There is a statutory requirement for us to provide all residential properties with an information leaflet, which forms part of your 2011-12 Council Tax bill. These leaflets explain how the County Council, district / city council, police and fire authorities spend your money.

These Council Tax leaflets are also provided below. The Total Band D Council Tax rate (excluding Parishes) is given on page 3 of each leaflet, and further information on amounts levied by Parishes can be found between pages 12 and 14 (except for Cambridge City, which does not have Parishes).
