Cambridgeshire Public Services Network (CPSN) will replace the existing IT and telephone network (CCN) when the contract expires in April 2012.
The new communications network will link County Council’s offices, schools, libraries, children’s centres, community access points, and the Internet.
It will also provide improved data, telephone and service networks and affordable solutions for other public services and organisations within and beyond Cambridgeshire, that have joined the CPSN partnership.
Virgin Media Business (VMB) was awarded the contract for network services by the CPSN partnership, led by the County Council, in April 2011, following a detailed joint procurement exercise with district councils, voluntary organisations and fire and rescue services.
The County Council is now working with VMB to implement a flexible, core network that will support its services and bring a wide range of benefits to all its users.
The phased transition to the new network has begun and is due to be completed by July 2012.
Cambridgeshire County Councillor Linda Oliver, then Cabinet member for Resources and Performance, and Mark Heraghty, Virgin Media Business Chief Executive, signed the contract for the new Cambridgeshire Public Services Network in June 2011.
