Our Council’s vision is simple. We want to create communities where people want to live and work, now and in the future.
To achieve this, we must recognise and celebrate the diversity of our local communities and be sensitive to the particular needs that arise from that diversity. We must make sure that all our services are fair and accessible to everyone – helping them to be the best that they can be.
We recognise and value the diversity of all the people and communities in Cambridgeshire, which makes Cambridgeshire a vibrant and creative environment in which to live and work.
The Single Equality Strategy sets out our commitment to providing fair and equally accessible services for everyone in Cambridgeshire, whether they are:
- using our services, in need of our services or may need our services in future;
- living in, working in or visiting Cambridgeshire;
- employees or prospective employees; contractors supplying goods or services; or anyone working in a voluntary capacity, supported by us.
We are absolutely committed to promoting equality through our service delivery, policy development and employment procedures, and to eliminating discrimination. In March 2009, the Council was awarded Level 3 under the Equality Standard for Local Government, recognising our commitment to equality and diversity and that we have robust plans in place that will make a real difference in our communities and throughout the organisation. We will use this strategy to build on that success and further improve quality of life for everyone in Cambridgeshire.
