Case Study: New tenant in Ramsey

New tenant Luke Abblitt

Every year County Farms lets holdings on the estate to new tenants, providing an opportunity for new entrants to start their own farm business.

After applying for the arable holding in December 2010, Luke Abblitt took over 72 hectares at Daintree Farm, Ramsey St Marys in October 2011. Luke is 23 years old and studied at The College of West Anglia and Moulton College where he obtained a NVQ Level 3 in Agricultural Crop Production. He has also passed his PA2 spraying certificate and Rough Terrain Telescopic Forklift Test. After leaving college he farmed with his father in Ramsey, before deciding to start out on his own.

Luke says ‘’I am settling into the farm quickly and really appreciate the opportunity the County Farms Estate has given me. Both my uncle and cousin are also tenants on the estate, so it is an important part of our lives’’.

If you are interested in applying for a holding on the estate, four farms are being let from October 2012. Please see the ‘Farms to Let’ page for full details.
