Woodland improvements on the estate

Footbridge opening at Oakington

There are over 40 woodlands on the County Farms Estate, many were planted with Forestry Commission grants over the last 20 years.

During 2010, we secured funding through Woodland Improvement Grants from the Forestry Commission to carry out management to improve the woods for public access and wildlife. These woods were:

  • Mansell Wood, Oakington
  • Station Wood, Somersham
  • Foxton Woods
  • Reach Pocket Park
  • Doddington Pocket Park

We have now secured further funding to continue these works in 2011/12. The sites we will be carrying out improvement works to are:

  • Histon and Girton community woods
  • Lamb's Plantation, Chatteris
  • Willock Farm, Wisbech St Mary
  • Meg's Mount, Fulbourn

In 2010, a new woodland was planted between Oakington and Girton to celebrate 100 years of the County Farms Estate. A new permissive path linking the Centenary woods to Mansell Wood, Oakington, is also now open, linked by a new footbridge funded by the Forestry Commission. A map of the walk is available to download below.
