Huntingdon Town Centre Refurbishment

Project
The County Council's proposal to redevelop an area of Huntingdon Town Centre between Princess Street, the bus station, Walden Road and George Street is progressing well. The County Council is working in partnership with Clegg developments Ltd.

The scheme
The project will involve the construction of new County Council offices and a combined Justice Centre as part of phase one. Phase two will see the refurbishment of the existing buildings on the site which are of historic importance including Gazeley House, Wykeham House, Walden House, Lawrence Court and 10/10a Princes Street.

They will be refurbished for a variety of uses including housing. The scheme also includes the provision of a new Register office and either a new or refurbished library.

Planning guidance
Huntingdonshire District Council approved the Interim Planning Guidance on September 23rd 2004. Detailed planning consent for phase one has now been received.

Archaeological investigations
The archaeological investigations on this site have been completed. Please see the link to the relevant Archaeological page on the right hand side for further details.

Completion
It is anticipated that the County Council's new office accommodation will be completed by the end of 2006.

Relocation
In order for the construction to start Social Services staff have relocated to Dryden House, St. John's Street, Huntingdon. The Register Office has also been relocated to refurbished accommodation in Ferrars Road.
