Training and Qualifications for Playwork

What is Playwork?


Playworkers are people who work professionally with children and young people and facilitate play. It is their role to enhance the environment, creating opportunities for children to play in different ways with minimal intervention. They ensure that children are safe and able to take on challenges and risks to stretch children’s abilities. Playworkers provide a very valuable service to children and young people in a wide variety of places.

Qualifications and Training


Playwork can studied as a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) at Levels 2 and 3

Introduction to Playwork, Certificate (Level 2) in Playwork and the Award/Certificate/Diploma in Playwork Level 3

Playwork for Early Years Workers Transitional Award – 2 Units to up skill to Level 3 in Playwork.

There are also higher qualifications available in Playwork.
