What is it?
Secondary school clothing allowance is paid directly in to your bank account as a contribution towards the cost of secondary school uniform.
Yearly allowance
For the financial year 2011/2012 the allowance is £50 for year 7 pupils and £25 for year 8, 9, 10 and 11 pupils.
Please note, this is a discretionary scheme and is subject to review annually.

If you are applying for the secondary school clothing allowance only please print the following application form and post it to the Education Welfare Benefits Service, alternatively call us on 01480 372307 and we will post a form to you.

Who can apply?
Children who are of compulsory school age attending secondary school and are claiming or have parents who are claiming one of the following benefits:
- Income Support or
- Income Based Job Seekers Allowance or
- Income Related Employment and Support Allowance (this benefit was introduced from 27 October 2008) or
- Support under part VI of the Immigration & Asylum Act 1999 or
- Guarantee element of State Pension Credit
- Hold an NHS Tax Credit Exemption Certificate (issued to families receiving Child Tax Credit and Working Tax Credit whose annual income is £16,190 or less)
Note, if you hold an NHS Tax Credit Exemption Certificate you will need to send us a copy of your award notice or a photocopy of your NHS Tax Exemption card
How long?
You can make one claim per financial year and will need to re-apply each year
Processing your claim
We shall confirm your entitlement to receive the allowance and make the payment into your bank account within 10 working days of processing a valid application form.
