About race, equality and diversity

We believe that all children and young people are entitled to the highest quality education which enables them to achieve their best. To this end, Cambridgeshire Race Equality and Diversity Service (CREDS) works with schools, parents/carers and communities to support the achievement of Black, minority ethnic (BME), Gypsy and Traveller children.

We support:

  • Black, minority ethnic, Gypsy and Traveller families to access pre-school places for your children.
  • Your involvement in your children’s education and school life.
  • A relevant and accessible curriculum which gives all children a sense of personal and collective identity.
  • Schools to work with Black, minority ethnic, Gypsy or Traveller children who have missed schooling for whatever reasons.
  • Continued education for children who travel.
  • English as an additional language (EAL) and first language development for children who speak languages other than English.
  • Successful transfer from primary to secondary school for Gypsy and Traveller children.
  • Black, minority ethnic, Gypsy and Traveller families who are new to Cambridgeshire and whose children have not yet enrolled in schools.
  • Schools with little experience of working with Black, minority ethnic, Gypsy and Traveller families.
  • Schools and families in dealing with issues of racism.
