With social inclusion and community engagement high on the national and local agenda, the Community Inclusion Team is committed to promoting dialogue and links between schools, home, other agencies and communities with the aims of:
- supporting social inclusion, participation, and improved achievement of Black and Minority Ethnic Pupils
- increasing the capacity of BME parents through a community based skills development programme
The Community Inclusion Team staff include:
- Community Inclusion Team Manager
- Home School Liaison Officers (HSLO) for Bengali and Punjabi speaking communities
- Community Link Workers (CLW) for Black, Chinese, Bengali and Urdu/Punjabi speaking communities
- Learning Mentors
HSLOs, Community Link Workers and Learning Mentors are flexible and work on a wide range of issues such as:
- Visits and contracts between school, home and other agencies
- Cultural and religious diversity
- Behaviour and emotional support to pupils
- Community participation and consultation
- Dealing with racism
- Parental participation in schools
- Supporting parents, schools and the Student Assessment service during
- One to one mentoring support to young people who are either disaffected and or at risk of underachievement
- Adult and Community Learning for BME people
- School admission and transfer
As part of social inclusion and the promoting diversity agenda, the team, in partnership with ICT and CAS, has established a website to celebrate linguistic diversity in Cambridgeshire (please see link on the right).
