Accessibility
Extras

Improving access to education for disabled pupils is essential to ensure equality of opportunity, full participation in society, independent living and economic self-sufficiency.  We believe that disabled children and young people should be valued for what they can do rather than be labelled by what they cannot.

There are three parts to the strategy.  These are:

  • making the school’s curriculum more accessible to children with disabilities, e.g. providing simplified worksheets for those who have problems with reading.
  • improving the physical environment of schools, e.g. building ramps so that wheelchair users can have full access around the school, etc.

  • providing alternatives to standard written information, e.g. audio materials for pupils with visual or learning difficulties.
