Over 50% of visually impaired children and young people have additional disabilities, such as hearing impairment, physical disability or learning difficulties.
Visual Impairment Service staff work together with other professionals to meet their needs in pre-school, mainstream and special school settings. This includes:
1. Early Intervention
- support for parents/carers
- on-going assessment and observation
- planning educational programmes
- access to toys and equipment
2. Working with school staff and other professionals to:
- provide information
- advise on curriculum issues
- identify teaching strategies
- recommend resources
- develop mobility skills
- provide training and peer awareness
