The Partners in Learning project was a joint initiative between the Parent Partnership Service, Early Years & Childcare and Family Learning to promote parental involvement in their child's learning. The initiative, funded by the then Department for Education and Skills (now the Department for Children, Schools and Families), ran for three years. During this period Nursery, Primary, Secondary and Special schools as well as some of Cambridgeshire's specialist education services took part in projects to promote the benefits of the involvement of parents in their children's learning. Projects included:
- 'Story Sacks' - to help promote reading together
- 'Travellers Traditional Tales and Rhymes' - to produce materials reflecting the Traveller culture to enable traveller parents to encourage their children to look at books
- '9E4's' Wildlife Garden - to set up a wildlife garden using pupils and parents skills and knowledge. The pupils concerned benefited from their ownership of it and seeing the project develop.
- The use of school mini-buses to bring parents into school to attend coffee mornings and other events.
The intention was to share the skills and good practice developed during the three years with all educational settings, including early years and childcare settings, to enable further projects to develop and for people to be able to use the information gained to enhance their own practice working in partnership with parents.
A website is available to enable the downloading of all the materials produced and contact details of schools.
