Transition Information Advice - Further information

Exactly what does the Transition Information Adviser do?
The Transition Information Adviser can offer parents and carers impartial, independent advice about the secondary school admission process. The Transition Information Adviser can advise parents, but will not make any decisions for them.

Transition Information Advisers want to ensure parents have full access and understanding of the information available so they are able to express their preference for schools and complete the Secondary School Common Application Form.

What ‘choice’ do parents have?
Although we talk about choice, parents only have the right to express a preference. This means that parents can state their top three preferences of secondary schools to their Local Authority and this will be offered if the preference meets the criteria set out in ‘Admissions to Schools in Cambridgeshire Guide’. All parents of children in Year 6 should receive a copy of this booklet.

Can the Transition Information Adviser help everyone?
The Transition Information Adviser is available to help anyone who feels they need extra assistance, including those who:
· Speak English as an additional language
· Need extra help completing the forms
· Have recently moved to Cambridgeshire or England
· Are frequent movers
