Post-16 Education Transport 2011/2012
Eligibility for post-16 transport support is based on students attending their nearest appropriate centre so support depends on where you live and where you intend to study. The post-16 village list below is designed to offer assistance in determining the nearest appropriate post-16 centre to your home address. Please note, this list is intended to act as a guide only. All transport applications will be determined on the individual circumstances including the course applied for, distance from home address to the post-16 centre and availability of route. You are advised to check with the LA regarding the transport implications of your choice of centre by emailing:
post16transport@cambridgeshire.gov.uk
by phone: 01223 699790.
Assistance with the cost of transport
Cambridgeshire County Council (CCC) can help you with transport costs if you fulfil all of the criteria. You must:
- live in the area where CCC is the Local Authority (LA)
- be enrolled on a full time course of at least 15 hours per week, at your nearest appropriate post-16 centre, whether in school, college or F.E. college, as a direct continuation of your 11-16 education
- be over compulsory school age but under 19 on 31 August 2011, or be on a course of further education started before you reached the age of 19
- live at an address over three miles from your "nearest appropriate post-16 centre" by the shortest available walking route
- be able to complete the journey in less than 1 hour 30 minutes
You may also qualify if you fulfil the first three criteria, and:
- have a medical condition that affects your ability to walk (a supporting statement from the Consultant Community Paediatrician will be sought)
- live less than three miles from your "nearest appropriate centre"
- would not be able to access your "nearest appropriate centre" without the provision of transport
If transport is granted on medical grounds, you will still have to pay the relevant termly charge (unless you fulfil the criteria for free transport).
Free transport
Free transport is available if you meet the criteria above and you or your family:
- receive income support
- receive pension credit
- receive income-based job seeker's allowance
- have an NHS Tax Credit Exemption Certificate under Child Tax Credit
It is also available if:
- you are a "looked after child" under the care of the LA, and attending your "nearest appropriate post-16 centre" (proof of status is needed).
Free transport may also be provided to students who are blind or visually impaired, if:
- you are attending your "nearest appropriate post-16 centre"
- that centre is less than three miles away
- there is no public bus service
