Educational Provision in Gamlingay
On Tuesday, 14 June 2011, the County Council’s Cabinet considered the outcome of the public consultation process on the future of educational provision in Gamlingay and made its decision on the way forward from three possible options. The Cabinet decided to take forward the first of these options.
This means that the current three-tier educational system will be retained, with the First School and the Village College in Gamlingay remaining as they are. The Village College will continue to feed into Stratton Upper School, in Biggleswade. Both Gamlingay Village College and Stratton Upper School converted to academy status in Spring 2012 and are now operating together in a federation.
Subsequent to this Cabinet decision being made, a number of parents expressed their concern to the Leader of the Council, Cabinet members and senior officers, indicating that they wished to access the two-tier system of education which operates in the rest of Cambridgeshire. It was, therefore, agreed that a leaflet for parents should be produced, setting out factual information about accessing education that is not the designated catchment provision, and contact details for the County Council teams dealing with school admissions and transport. This leaflet can be downloaded below.
