Planning permission has been granted and construction work has commenced on three major housing developments around Trumpington.
There is currently one primary school serving the Trumpington community, Fawcett Primary School. Two new primary schools will be built to meet the needs of the expanded Trumpington community. The existing Fawcett Primary School will also be expanded. The first of those to be built is the primary school on the Trumpington Meadows development, to the west of Hauxton Road, adjacent to the Trumpington Park and Ride site.
In 2009, the Fawcett Federation Group was selected by the Council’s Cabinet to promote the new school in a formal federation with Fawcett Primary School. In 2011, following public consultation, Fawcett Primary School and the temporary governing body for the new Trumpington Meadows school agreed to establish a federation between the two schools. The new school will open in September 2012, providing new places for residents of the three new developments.
Alongside the opening of the new school, Fawcett Primary School governing body agreed to make a prescribed alteration to change from a community school to become a foundation school. This change also takes effect from the 1 September 2012.
Planning permission for the new school was granted by the Joint Development Control Committee in 2011, and the construction of the new school will commence in early 2012.
