Discover More About Northstowe's First Schools

Public meetings to discuss the first primary and secondary schools to be established in the new town of Northstowe are being held next month.

The Council plans to open Northstowe’s first primary school in January 2010 with 60 pupils aged 4 to 11. The school will then grow in size to cater for 420 pupils by 2012.

The Council will open the town’s secondary school in September 2013 for 600 pupils initially. It will grow to cater for 1,650 pupils by 2023.

The primary school is the first of six, which the Council plans to provide, to cater for the children of families moving into the new homes. There will be just one secondary school, catering for the 11 to 16 age range.  Plans are being developed in partnership with the local Learning and Skills Council (LSC) for post-16 provision on an adjacent site.

As part of the planning process, the Council is required to invite organisations to bid to run the new schools. The period for submission of bids has now ended, and the proposals are available on the right hand side to download.

The meeting for the primary school will be on Wednesday 9 July at Over Community Centre starting at 6pm. Two organisations have submitted plans to run the primary school.

The meeting for the secondary school will be on Thursday 10 July at Bar Hill Church. There will be a display between 3pm and 6pm, with presentations starting at 6pm.  Four organisations have bid to run the secondary school.

All sessions are open to the public.

Two public notices providing summary details of all the bids received will be published on 1 July 2008.  Anyone who wishes to do so has until 5pm on 13 August in which to write to the Council with their views on any or all of the bids.  The County Council’s Cabinet will decide who will run the schools at its meeting on 7 October.
