Becoming a youth worker
Extras
Picture of a youth worker talking to a group of young people

Thinking about becoming a youth worker? Youth Work offers a variety of opportunities to people wishing to work with young people.

Whether you are interested in volunteering, doing part-time work for one or two evenings a week or a full time post, we will be happy to talk to you about it.

Do I need experience or a qualification?  - Some of the work does call for experienced/qualified workers but we also have openings for people new to the service.

Comprehensive training is available whatever level you are at.

What sort of people are you looking for? – People come to youth work from all walks of life and each person brings their own individual skills.  there is no “one type” of person, just people who:

  • like young people and enjoy being with them
  • can listen to young people and take an interest in them
  • can accept young people for who they are without prejudice
  • are willing to learn and develop their understanding of young people
  • value young people and want them to achieve
